WARNING: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!
If you’re like me and have been watching Dragon Ball Super every Saturday for the past several months, then you’ll know that the long-awaited Tournament of Power is FINALLY underway! After 96 episodes, we get to see our heroes duke it out with the strongest warriors from several other universes in a battle to save their own.
Team Universe 7
For those of you who don’t know, Dragon Ball Super is a continuation of the long running Dragon Ball franchise. What Dragon Ball Super establishes is that there is more than one universe present in the Dragon Ball world. In fact, there were 18 universes at one point, but the God Above All, Zeno, got mad one day and wiped several of them from existence with a snap of his fingers. Truly, this is one being you do NOT want to trifle with. The characters we’ve come to know and love reside in Universe 7.
After several story arcs, including extended versions of the most recent Dragon Ball films and one with a mysterious “dark” version of Goku, we’ve come to the Universe Survival Arc. This arc gathers 10 warriors from every remaining universe and pits them against each other in a massive Battle Royale called the Tournament of Power. The rules are simple: 80 Warriors go all out and have to knock each other off the fighting stage. No flight skills or outside assistance (like the famed Senzu Beans) are allowed, and the universe with the most warriors remaining at the end of 48 Earth minutes wins. The universes that lose…get erased, completely, except for their assigned Angels (as an example, Whis and Vados are two Angels).

This Intro Theme is the best!
Each universe had a few days to select and gather their 10 warriors. Universe 7’s team, when finally gathered, consisted of Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Krillin, Android #17, Android #18, Tien, Master Roshi, and Majin Buu. However, some rather interesting things happened and Majin Buu had to be replaced with none other than the Evil Tyrant, Frieza. Oh yes, Frieza, one of Dragon Ball’s most famous villains, has to work together with our heroes to save Universe 7! Frieza was revived for 24 hours by Fortuneteller Baba to participate in the Tournament, much like how Goku was revived to hold off Majin Buu back in Dragon Ball Z. However, Frieza would not agree to participate unless Goku promised to revive him with the Dragon Balls should Universe 7 win and their universe survive. Definitely some interesting developments!
So, who will our heroes be facing? You won’t believe some of them. In one of the other universe, it’s revealed that the Saiyans still exist. One of them happens to be their equivalent of Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan. But get this: it’s a young, timid Saiyan girl named Kale. Along with Kale is her sister Caulifa and the young Saiyan Cabba, whom Vegeta faced in the previous Exhibition Match. Along with these Saiyans is the legendary assassin Hit and a member of Frieza’s race called Frost. From other universes, there are a trio of wolf brothers from Universe 9 who have interesting abilities that make them very deadly along with the famed Pride Troopers; this team boasts the most powerful fighters in Universe 11.
Kale, the Legendary Super Saiyan of Universe 6
Will our heroes be able to win the Tournament? Will Goku and the others be able to keep Frieza in line? Will Kale transform in the middle of the battle and slaughter everyone? Stay tuned to find out!
