Dominic Monaghan joins the cast of Star Wars Episode IX

The newest addition to the cast of the next Star Wars film is none other than Dominic Monaghan. If he seems familiar to you then you have most likely seen him in the live action Lord of the Rings films or on the Abrams series, Lost. He played a Hobbit known as Meriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck. We have not been given any hints as to Monaghan’s character in the upcoming film – that is still a secret. We don’t think he will play a major character though considering the timing of his casting.

The ninth episode of the Star Wars saga already boasts a large mix of characters from the original trilogy, returning characters from the current trilogy and some new faces as well. Billy Dee Williams will reprise his role as the charming gambler Lando Calrissian and even the late Carrie Fisher will appear as Princess Leia thanks to some previously shot footage not used in The Force Awakens. There will probably not be many further additions to the cast (if any at all) because filming is already underway.

Episode IX began production earlier this month and is scheduled for release during Holiday 2019. The production seems to have an issue with leaks as a handful of photos showing Finn with Chewbacca and Poe have already surfaced. You can see those below.
