Broadchurch and Black Mirror actress Jodie Whitaker is set to pilot the TARDIS on Christmas Day. She will be the first woman to portray the Doctor in Doctor Who’s 58 year history. Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Kris Marshall were the bookies’ picks, but the English actress will take over from Peter Capaldi. As is traditional, the change will take place during the Christmas special. I know what I’m doing that day.
In the wake of this news, the dynamic of the show is about to fundamentally change. With Steven Moffat stepping down as show runner, Chris Chibnall taking over, and a new lead with an entirely different relationship between Doctor and companion, all eyes will be on the new season in 2018.
If you had to cast the Doctor, who would you pick? Leave your answers in the comments below. For more out of this world content (see what I did there?), check out the rest of TICGN.
