Development of Metroid Prime 4

Development of Metroid Prime 4 Is Starting Over, Retro Studios Now Developing

At E3 2017, Nintendo announced Metroid Prime 4 for the Nintendo Switch with the reveal of a logo. After quite a bit of silence on the game in months past, we’ve finally got an update.  Shinya Takahashi, Senior Managing Executive Officer at Nintendo, announced that the development of Metroid Prime 4 is starting over, with Retro Studios taking the lead and developing the game from here on out.

Watch Nintendo’s update on the development of Metroid Prime 4 below:

Shinya Takahashi, Senior Managing Executive Officer, has a development update on Metroid Prime 4 for Nintendo Switch. Please take a look.

Shinya Takahashi states that development of the game had become “very challenged” and that “By collaborating and developing with Retro Studios, we believe we can make this game something that will meet our fans’ expectations.”

He went on to confirm that because development has basically been restarted, the game will be heavily delayed from the original internal plan, and that he and the rest of Nintendo both apologized for the delay and thanked everyone for their understanding.

When I initially wrote my thoughts on what we’d see from different gaming companies in 2019, I didn’t expect that Metroid Prime 4 would launch this year. I did however think we’d be getting an update on it. I was correct but not even remotely in the way I’d imagined.
