On April 27th Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, wrote that “a few copies” of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End had been stolen while in transit in the UK. Yoshida wrote:
While we are continuing to work with the police to resolve the matter – which is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation – it appears that a few copies of the game have surfaced in the UK.
The blog post goes on to explain that Yoshida feels the quality of the game makes it worth the wait until the game’s release on May 10th. The post doesn’t disclose any details regarding where, or when, this incident occurred and whether or not anyone was injured.
We now an update on the situation regarding the actual discs themselves that were stolen. A PlayStation spokesperson told MCV:
We can confirm that unfortunately some contents from a lorry transporting a variety of video game and DVD titles, including a quantity of the much anticipated Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, was stolen in the UK, during a violent assault … To be clear, we have yet to ship any stock of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End to retail and so any suggestion that UK retailers have broken the official street date is not correct. The official release date of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End remains May 10th.
If you spot any copies of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End for sale we urge you not to buy them. Owning stolen property is a punishable offence in a court of law and I know that nobody here at TiCGN would like to see that happening to anyone. It’s good to hear that Sony are cooperating with the police to aid the investigation, and everyone here at TiCGN truly wishes that nobody was injured in this incident.
