One of the big blockbusters left in the PlayStation 4 pipeline is Death Stranding, a title from Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions. While some have speculated we might see that game this fall, there’s been no official release date or window. Whatever internal date PlayStation previously had, it’s been pushed back, as in a recent interview with J-Wave, Kojima admitted that Death Stranding has been slightly delayed. Please note, the original interview is in Japanese.
Kojima admits Death Stranding has been slightly delayed:
The fans all over the world are looking forward to the release of a new game “DEATH STRANDING” that Mr. Kojima is handling. How far is the production going?
Kojima: With the story and design from the beginning to the end, as it is an open world game, it is not in the level of adjustment stage yet it is assembled. Currently I’m doing a “doing this this way”, “I will change the directing here” while holding the controller everyday.
Regarding the release date that Mr. Kojima says, “Many studios lag behind the planned release date,” DEATH STRANDING “has been slightly out of the initial plan, but not much delayed,” he reported progress.
While delays are disappointing, it’s definitely better for a game to release in the most polished state possible. For some previously released footage of the game, you can check out the TGS 2018 trailer here, as well as the E3 2018 Death Stranding trailer right here.
