D23 2015: Everything you need to know about the Captain America: Civil War trailer (plus photo aided breakdown)

Yay! A Captain America: Civil War trailer! … wait what’s that? It’s not for general viewing?! How dare you Disney! Yes well, I guess I shall do a breakdown for you all in the absence of a trailer that I can link you to. I have included photos from the set that look like they will correspond to the scenes in question to give you a better idea of what the footage might have looked like.

Potential spoilers ahead for Captain America: Civil War as well as Ant-Man

Kevin Feige had a few words before the footage rolled mentioning that the film marked the end of the Captain America trilogy and that it was also:

“The culmination of everything that has come before in the Cinematic Universe.”

If you are interested in the rest of the Marvel panel we also have a break down of the Doctor Strange concept and footage that was shown at the event. Go check it out!

So, the trailer kicks off with the Captain, Falcon and Black Widow on a mission in a foreign marketplace. Falcon who is flying above sends out a drone (called a ‘red wing’) from his pack that lands and scans a vehicle below. The images are streamed straight to his visor and it becomes apparent that the car is in fact a battering ram. Crossbones then emerges from the back of the car and Captain America jumps from his vantage point above to engage. Crossbones throws a bomb onto Cap’s shield which forces him to throw it in the air ensuring no one is hurt by the blast. Falcon flies into the action and Black Widow mean while takes out multiple bad guys.

Turning things into a fist fight Steve and Crossbones start throwing punches, with Crossbone’s mechanical arms being even more deadly with the addition knives. On the verge of defeat Crossbones says: “He remembered you, you know. Your little pal Bucky.”, and this leads Cap to ask: “What did you say?”. Queue the Marvel logo.

A voice-over from General Ross is then heard over the top of shots of the new Avengers team in their headquarters. “The world owed you an unplayable debt. People see you as a hero. There are some who prefer the word vigilante—people are afraid.”

Captain America responds “This job, you try to save as many as we can. Sometimes that doesn’t mean everyone.” over the top of the end scenes of The Winter Solider. Then the trailer cuts to the end credits scene of Ant-Man. Falcon and Cap are in a warehouse with Bucky trapped in front of them. “Bucky, do you know me?”  “Your mother’s name was Sara.” The Winter Solider responds and Cap smiles.

Another clip montage as Tony Stark and Cap argue about over-site and protection. “We have no boundaries,” Stark says “We’re no better than the bad guys.” “That’s what this is about to you? Protection?” Captain America replies. More argument culminating in Iron Man snidely retorting:

“Sometimes I want to punch you in your perfect teeth.”

Images of Steve and Bucky walking over to a snow covered bunker. Someone asks “What would you call a group of enhanced individuals who inflict their will anywhere their choose?” followed by clips of Vision, Scarlet Witch and other Avengers. A voice responds “Sometimes the safest hands are still our own.” More craziness and excitement, glimpses of Black Panther and a clip involving Black Widow and Hawkeye fighting eachother “We’re still friends right?” Black Widow asks with Hawkeye responding “Depends on how hard you hit me,”. From the rumoured teams that were released last week it has been guessed that Natasha and Barton will find themselves caught on opposing sides of the Superhero war. Unfortunately no Spider-Man clips were shown debunking the ‘leaked’ photo that appeared on Tuesday.

Finally then we get newest Marvel addition Ant-Man (who had fallen asleep in the back of the transport van.) meeting Captain America. He of course acts like a Tumblr fan girl and is totally starstruck, inevitably fumbling his greeting.

“Oh my God, Captain America, it’s an honor! I’m shaking your hand too long right? You know a lot of super people, so thinks for thanking of me.”

Thanks for reading! What do you think of the footage? Are you super-stoked for Captain America: Civil War? Which Avenger are you most excited to see do battle on the big screen in May 6th, 2016? For more movies, TV and gaming news stick right here on TiCGN!
