Coco Tops Justice League in the Long Weekend

It looks like the latest Disney/Pixar film was just to good to pass up this Thanksgiving weekend.  Coco has toppe Justice League in the box office. The weekend was good to the top three movies currently out in theaters.

The animated film Coco easily took the top spot with $49 million this weekend. The five-day total though has the movie sitting at an estimated $71 million. Coco follows the story of a young boy named Miguel who travels to the land of the dead during the celebration of Day of the Dead. He seeks out his family to return him to the land of the living. Justice League may not have had the best domestic gross when you compare it to Thor: Ragnarok or Wonder Woman but the movie is still making money in the foreign market. Over the last five days Justice League made an estimated $60 million. Two-thirds of that came from the weekend. Now the movie is really thriving overseas. Currently it’s almost at the $500 million mark because of the surge in the foreign market. It will be interesting to see how this movie does – can it do what Fate of the Furious did earlier this year? The movie Wonder is still doing well at the box office. It has stayed in the top three this weekend with an estimated $22 million.

Weekend Top Five

5. Daddy’s Home 2 $13 million

4. Thor: Ragnarok $16.7 million

3. Wonder $22 million

2. Justice League $40 million

1. Coco $49 million

From now until December 8th the theaters will not have any movie coming out in large markets. The movies coming out are limited releases. Because of that we may see Thor surge or maybe even Justice League can climb back to the top. It really will be interesting to see how the competition does with no new releases. Now speaking of next week, The Disaster Artist is being released. It is about the making of the worst movie ever. It stars James Franco, Dave France, and Seth Rogen. I would love for it to be released near me, I just doubt that it will. The juggernaut that is Star Wars will be coming in the next few weeks, December 15th is not that far away.
