Captain America: Civil War opened up in theaters across the country this weekend. The movie is not only a financial success it introduces two new characters to the Marvel Universe. Spider-Man and The Black Panther have become instant fan favorites after this weekends opening.
Civil War has grossed $181 million in its first domestic weekend. To compare that to the original Captain America that was released in 2011 only grossed $176 million in its first weekend. The movie is also the 5th highest domestic opening easily topping Iron Man 3- $174 million.

Since Captain America was released a week earlier in foreign locations, the movie already sits at the 5th highest grossing movie of 2016 in the world. It currently has grossed $ 678 million in the world market. It’s easy to say that Civil War will reach that $1 billion mark with no problems.
