There has been a wide variety of thought, of how Destiny as a franchise has been handled from the very first game all the way to latest expansion of Destiny 2. Many people love the franchise while others long for the golden days of Halo back in the Xbox 360 era. Without any doubt, regardless of your thoughts their games Bungie has established themselves as a world-class studio with many talented developers.
Bungie announced today that they have formed a partnership with NetEase, as they look to build a whole new game. To quote from their statement they had this to say in regards to the new partnership.
Bungie announces new partnership:
“Today, we’re excited to announce that we’ve entered into a new partnership with NetEase to help us explore new directions. With their industry expertise, they’ll empower us to build new worlds and invite players, new and old, to join us there. They’ll help us support separate teams inside Bungie to bring our newest ambitions to life”.
Now, this latest development may worry the large number of fans that Destiny has brought into the fold over the years. Bungie directly addressed this concern, relaying to players that they need not worry about this new partnership affecting Destiny.
“If you’re a player of Destiny, this news won’t impact the hobby you’ve come to know. Destiny is an experience that will grow for many years to come. We’ll continue to work with our partners at Activision to foster this global community and turn new players from all over the world into Guardians. Our commitment to that world is not diminished by this announcement. We have exciting plans for the future of the Destiny franchise, and you’ll learn more about the next steps we’ll take together in the weeks to come.”
While this lays the groundwork for a new IP from Bungie which is very exciting, its great to see them still have the passion and dedication for the fanbase that has supported the Destiny franchise. It should be very interesting to see what becomes of this partnership.
