The weekend is not fully finished but Black Panther is already clawing his way to the top. Right now the movie is sitting at an estimated $192 million from the Box Office and it is only Sunday. The movie is expected to gross well over $200 million domestically after tomorrow. Black Panther has broken some records with the highest theatrical opening in February and Presidents Day Weekend. Deadpool previously held the record for February with an opening of $132 million; this movie easily topped that. Black Panther is sitting at $361 million worldwide.
Two other movies also made their debuts this weekend. They really didn’t make a box office splash though. The competition was just too overwhelming. Early Man and Samson both made it into the top ten domestically. The Marvel juggernaut is just something that can’t be stopped. The next few weekends will be interesting to watch as Black Panther can easily make it to the $500 million mark. The animated movie Peter Rabbit could actually break even during its theatrical run. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is not going to cross that billion dollar mark as it slowly hits $900 million. The weekend top five is just the estimated amount that doesn’t include Monday earnings.
Weekend Top Five-Estimated
5. The 15:17 to Paris $7.6 million
4. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle $7.9 million
3. Fifty Shades Freed $16 million
2. Peter Rabbit $17 million
1. Black Panther $192 million
A few new movies will be coming out next weekend. Annihilation, Game Night, and Every Day all seem like great movies that I can wait to rent later this year. Those three movies won’t stop Black Panther from staying on top. In fact, as I look at the upcoming releases I would say that A Wrinkle In Time might be the movie to stop it, That’s when it comes out on March 9th.
