THQ Nordic have announced that they will be publishing Biomutant. This upcoming 3D action RPG comes from former Just Cause developers.
The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. A plague has been devastating the land and its denizens have divided. The trailer may be cinematic, but it offers a look at a world with both lush environments and futuristic technology.
There is quite a lot of character customization in this game. In addition to switching out weaponry, players can modify their characters with physical mutations and mechanical attachments. Not only do these augment how the protagonist plays, they change their appearance as well. Players will also have a diverse assortment of martial arts moves at their disposal. The protagonist will have plenty of opportunities to grow their repertoire throughout their journey. The game also features a system in which the player’s choices will affect the story. They will have the opportunity to bring the world salvation or further ruin.
From the official site:
THQ Nordic and independent developer Experiment 101 have revealed Biomutant®, a new and original open-world action RPG for the PlayStation®4, Xbox One and Windows PC. Explore a world in turmoil and define its fate – will you be the hero and saviour or lead it to an even darker destiny?
Biomutant®’s unique design lets players change their character’s abilities and appearance with powerful mutations, bionic prosthetics and weapons. Grow claws, sprout wings, or attach a robotic leg – each choice will impact the way your hero plays in real-time combat that blends melee martial arts and firearms.
Set in an imaginative post-apocalyptic universe, Biomutant® is a kung fu fable filled with fantastic creatures to discover, dangerous factions to navigate, and colorful worlds to explore with mechs, paragliders, balloons, mounts, jet skis and more.
In this gameplay video, we can see more of the game’s environments as well as some of its vehicles. Like most things in Biomutant, the player can cutsomize these machinations. While not shown in either trailer, the game also includes a crafting system and robot helpers. There are many hazards in the world and players may need special gear to safely explore certain areas.
THQ Nordic have also revealed a collector’s edition for the game. Its contents include:
- The soundtrack
- A fabric poster
- A figurine
- The game itself
- A box
The price of this set is $119.99 in North America. Those of you who are in that region can currently pre-order this bundle for Xbox One and PS4. Meanwhile, the standard edition will only cost $59.99. As with the special edition, pre-orders are already open for both PS4 and Xbox One versions.
Biomutant is being developed by Experiment 101. It will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. There is no release date yet, but they expect it to launch sometime in 2018. The game is currently at Gamescom and will also be at PAX West from September 1-4, 2017.
