Bethesda Game Studios has a long history, making their debut separate from Bethesda Softworks in 2001 with The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, then following up with more entries in the Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises. Today, Bethesda announced that they are expanding, and that BattleCry Studios would be merged with Bethesda Game Studios and rebranded as Bethesda Game Studios Austin.
Here’s the full announcement regarding Bethesda Game Studios acquiring BattleCry Studios:
“As the vision, scale and ambitions for our games continue to grow, so does Bethesda Game Studios,” said Todd Howard, Game Director and Executive Producer at Bethesda Game Studios. “We’ve had the pleasure to know the talented developers at BattleCry and knew we could do great things together.”
Bethesda Game Studios Austin is staffed by a core team of seasoned industry veterans with experience developing AAA games. The studio will be managed by industry veteran Doug Mellencamp as Studio Director.
BattleCry Studios was owned by Zenimax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Game Studios. This merger is interesting, as it comes just days after Bethesda confirmed they were holding an E3 2018 showcase. I wonder what they’re working on, that they need a new studio to support them. E3 2018 is shaping up to be incredibly interesting.
