Demos for upcoming video games have been a rare occurrence for this generation. In the days of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 nearly every major game had some sort of demo but the practice seems to have been discarded in favor of beta releases. With that said, it seems that the concept of a demo is not entirely forgotten. In fact, Capcom is stepping up to the plate with a limited time “1-shot” demo for the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 2.
The aptly named “1-shot” demo will be available from January 11th to the 31st for the PS4, Xbox One and Steam. Once you begin the demo you will have 30 minutes to complete it. If you manage to successfully complete your mission with time to spare then you can replay it until the 30 minutes are up. If you fail the mission you can continue but you are under the same time constraints. There will also be an exclusive trailer for the game that will be unlocked at the end of the demo and you can watch that as many times as you like.
As Resident Evil 2 veterans know, you will play as a cop named Leon S. Kennedy who arrives at his new assignment – the Raccoon City Police Department – at the same time the city is going through a zombie epidemic. Worst. Day. Ever.
While the demo focuses on Leon, the full game will feature campaigns for both him and Claire Redfield. Capcom has remade the game with their RE Engine – the very same engine used in Resident Evil 7. Capcom promises that all of the classic puzzles you remember are intact while the controls and in-game camera are improved.
Resident Evil 2 will be released on January 25th.
