Last year several former developers from Rare formed a new development studio and started a Kickstarter for their first game. The game, Yooka-Laylee, is a spiritual successor to Rare’s Banjo-Kazooie games. There hasn’t been much news on the game since the end of the Kickstarter, but Playtonic Games is finally starting the marketing campaign for the game!
Yooka-Laylee takes place in a corporate building that will transport the titular duo to various worlds; in these worlds, Yooka and Laylee will be hunting for collectibles called Paiges that will help them stop the nefarious Capital B from taking all of the world’s literature and using it to make a profit.
Once in the world, Yooka and Laylee will collect “Quills” that they can use to purchase new moves in any order. This is a departure from the Banjo games where new moves were given to you in a set pattern with no player choice involved. It seems that players will have to purchase moves wisely unless they want to backtrack to previous levels to 100% the level.
Playtonic also revealed that the game will have a cast of crazy and memorable characters much like Banjo. This is exciting news for Banjo fans, as those games’ characters are highly beloved.
While Playtonic didn’t reveal everything today, they promise this is just the start of the Yooka-Laylee hype train and that we will be seeing much more of the game in the coming weeks. The game is set to appear in Edge Magazine on May 26, then it will be featured on several big YouTube channels before making an appearance at E3 2016.
TICGN will be sure to report on all of the upcoming Yooka-Laylee news.
