Over 840 Million Hours Of Backwards Compatible Games Played On Xbox One

A common argument used by opponents of backward compatibility features on modern consoles is that very few people would want to play older games on their new systems. As it turns out, a lot of people are playing Xbox 360 games on their Xbox One consoles. A recent announcement on Xbox Wire has confirmed that gamers have racked up nearly one billion hours playing backward compatible Xbox 360 titles.

“Compatibility is important to Xbox, to developers and their games, and our community. Preserving the art form of video games is part of our DNA, which is why Xbox One is the only console designed to play the best games of the past, present and future,” wrote Bill Stillwell, the lead program manager for Xbox.

As of this writing there are over 460 Xbox 360 games and 13 original Xbox games that are playable on Xbox One thanks to the backward compatibility feature. There are also 11 Xbox 360 titles that have been enhanced for the Xbox One X.
