Boss Baby has dethroned Beauty and the Beast as the top movie at the box office this weekend. The new animated comedy features Alec Baldwin as Boss Baby. The movie took in an estimated $49 million over the weekend. Although this is not a ground breaking amount of money, it was enough to take first place. Beauty and the Beast dropped down to second with $47 million.
Ghost in the Shell was released this weekend as well. The reviews are lukewarm at best. It is currently sitting at 42% on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie did gross $19 million domestically and another $40 million in foreign markets. The rest of the top five movies are listed below – surprisingly Kong: Skull Island is still hanging around. Power Rangers is dropping fast even though it was released just last weekend. I really thought that this movie might have some staying power in the box office at least until May. It looks like that won’t be happening.
Weekend Top Five Movies
5. Kong:Skull Island $8million
4. Power Rangers $14 million
3. Ghost in the Shell $19 million
2. Beauty and the Beast $47 million
1. Boss Baby $49 million
Next weekend the elderly comedy Going in Style and the next Smurfs will be coming out. It looks like this may be a weekend that most people won’t be going to the theatre. I’m guessing it will be a toss up between Boss Baby and Smurfs: Lost Village. Now if you’re looking for a scare, check out the new trailer for It. That clown is seriously messing with my fears.
