18 Million Active Xbox One’s Running Windows 10 – Leak

During the latest Windows Weekly Podcast featuring Microsoft experts Paul Thurrot and Mary Jo Foley, unconfirmed leaks placed the current install base of Windows 10 on Xbox One at around 18 Million that was active and online in the last 28 days.

Microsoft revealed that currently Windows 10 is installed on 200 Million devices, including Xbox One, PC and Mobile devices. The unconfirmed leak stated that PC takes up around 175 Million of those devices and Xbox One around 18 Million. Xbox One requires you to install the day one update (Which includes the Windows 10 update) on the first day you turn on the Xbox. If this is the majority of the Xbox One installbase, then it’s great news for future DirectX 12 compatibility.

Microsoft also stated that games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Halo 5, Forza 6 and Gears of War: Ultimate all sold well over 1 Million copies, which confirms the high attach rates for Xbox One exclusives. Halo 5: Guardians reached over $400 Million in sales in the first 6 days of it’s launch. The amount of active Windows 10 Xbox One devices had to be used and be online in the last 28 days to be counted.

We’ve reached out to @AaronGreenberg and @XboxQwik for a comment on this, and will update the article as more information is released.
